چکیده

Background: Middle ear aeration level is an important precursor of chronic otitis media (COM) and one predictive factor for tympanoplasty success. Tympanometry measures the volume external canal, middle cavity, aditus, mastoid air cells in patients with tympanic membrane (TM) perforation. The aim study was to determine whether pre-operative tympanometric interaural differences unilateral simple COM can predict success type I tympanoplasty. Methods: Retrospective analysis tympanoplasties performed adults between January 2017 December 2020 a tertiary hospital. Bilateral COM, revision surgery using cartilage grafts or associated other procedures were excluded. Success defined as no evidence TM perforation on otoscopic examination tympanogram, at least six months after surgery. Results: Sixty-one evaluated. mean age 43 years old, there female predominance (55.7%). overall rate 77%. Location size weren’t different among without surgical We found statistically significant result (p=0.009) regarding differences, median 2.7 ml (IQR 3.6) group 1.3 1.26) recurrence group. 90.6% difference greater than 2 had successful Conclusions: A good ear, demonstrated by higher

Is Cholesteatoma a Risk Factor for Graft Success Rate in Chronic Otitis Media Surgery?

Introduction: In developing countries, chronic otitis media (COM) and cholesteatoma are relatively prevalent.  Within the field of otology, COM surgery remains one of the most common surgical treatments. Most recent studies evaluating the potential prognostic factors in COM surgery have addressed graft success rate and types of middle ear and mastoid pathology. There has been much controversy a...
